Dr. Amal .A. Louis
MBBS, MRCP (UK), CCST. Cardio (UK)
Chief Consultant Interventional Cardiologist
Head - Department of Cardiology |
Dr.
Nandakumar Ramasami
MBBS, MRCP(UK), CCT-Cardiology(UK)
Director - Interventional Cardiology. |
The Department of
Cardiology had been at the forefront of MIOT’s initiative to
provide state-of-the-art therapy for patients with
cardiovascular disease. We have introduced a series of
innovative management strategies to make cardiac care
effective, efficient and comfortable for patients.
Dr. Amal Louis and Dr. Nandakumar Ramasami have spent more
than a decade in UK as Interventional cardiologist. The
following procedures are performed by the department of
Cardiology:
|
 |
Angiogram |
|
 |
Angioplasty and
Stenting |

including inoperable coronary artery disease. |
|
 |
CRT implantation
(Biventricular pacemaker) for heart failure patients and |
|
 |
Implantable
defibrillators for life threatening arrhythmias. |
|
 |
Cardiac MRI and
CTO intervention
(retrograde approach) |
|
Heart Attack Unit
Traditionally patients with heart attack are treated with an
injection to break the clot in the artery (Thrombolysis).
However, this is only successful in few patients and more
often the artery remains blocked.
MIOT offers emergency primary angioplasty to patient having
a heart attack .Any patient suspected of or having a heart
attack will be directly shifted to Cath lab from the
Emergency Department and urgent angioplasty and stenting of
the occluded artery is performed. This has proven to be
superior to Thrombolysis in preventing further muscle damage
and is life saving.
Day Case Procedures
|
 |
The Department
of Cardiology has introduced exclusive Radial Access
Angiography and Coronary Intervention on a day care basis.
Radial intervention is associated with low risk of bleeding,
early mobilization and patients can be discharged within 6
hours. |

The Invasive
Cardiology unit has the Digital Cath Lab that was the
first in the country. The system has advanced features
that aid diagnostic and interventional procedures for
patients off all age groups.
