MIOT Hospitals offers a complete and permanent solution for obese patients, who cannot able to bring down their weight by diet and exercise alone. MIOT offers permanent weight control of metabolic diseases through Bariatric surgery for people who are morbidly obese. Metabolic surgery is done to treat uncontrolled Type II Diabetes / Insulin resistant Type II Diabetes / Hypocholesterolemia.

This is not a cosmetic surgery but surgery to improve fitness and quality of life.

The Department performed the highest number of bariatric and metabolic surgeries in India, last year.

What is Obesity?

Obesity is defined as Body weight 30% greater than the Ideal body weight or 25% excessive body fat for men and 35% excessive body fat for women. But precisely, if the Body Mass Index (BMI) is 30 Kg/m² or greater, it’s called Obesity.

Morbidly Obese

Morbidly obese means BMI >35 with cormorbid medical conditions like, Diabetes / Hypertension/ Arthritis/ Heart and Kidney disease/ Infertility/ sleep apnea / GERD.

Research shows that, only 10% of obese patients have succeeded in bringing down their weight by diet and exercises. But it is very difficult even for those to maintain the “Thin” image permanently.

The Solution
MIOT KEYHOLE WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY is not a cosmetic surgery. It is a holistic treatment that brings down the overall body weight of the patient.

Two types of Weight loss surgical procedures are performed at MIOT. They are

Restrictive Surgery - Laparoscopic Swiss adjustable Gastric banding
Young patients with less medical problems, moderate obesity are the simple patient selection criteria. A band is placed around the upper most part of the stomach separating into one small portion. Main advantage of this procedure is its totally reversible.

For example: During the pregnancy period the procedure can be totally reversed, after breast feeding it can be activated without any surgery - It’s an outpatient procedure.

Restrictive & Malabsorptive Surgery - Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass
Older patients with more medical problems, Morbid Obesity are the basic patient selection criteria. It’s a permanent and not reversible procedure. Stapling is used to create a small upper stomach pouch, which restricts the amount of food intake and also a large portion of stomach is bypassed thus delaying food from mixing with digestive juices to avoid complete calorie absorption.

After the surgery

Patient has to be in the hospital for 2 to 3 days. Patient can walk the very next day of surgery. Liquid diet is given for first 1 to 2 weeks, and then their regular diet can be given.

Only the high calorie diets like, sweets, chocolate, alcohol and carbonated drinks should be restricted.

Weight loss up to 67% from the original body weight can be achieved in 6 months and the “Thin” image can be also be maintained permanently. They can resume their normal activities in 10 days without any discomfort.

Obesity is a Multifactor disease. Obesity can be due to Diet, Age, Medical diseases, Hormones, Hereditary factors and Psychological factors. And all these factors are interlinked and form a vicious cycle. Obese patients are not able to break the vicious cycle.

MIOT keyhole Weight loss surgery helps you as a tool to break this vicious cycle. Once the cycle is broken the patients could also able to reduce the morbidity of their other diseases like, Knee arthritis, Diabetes and Hypertension.
